Our First "Century" and some more "trail angels"...

Day 31 July 9th
100.5 miles
Newton, Kansas
1,884.4 miles total

It's been one month on the road today and we have completed our first 100 mile ride in a day. We pulled into the city of Newton, Kansas tonight around 8pm, exhausted, yet still on the quest to find the city park where we could camp for free. After asking around at gas stations we had made it to the area where the park should have been, we found a fire station and asked them to just point our tired bodies/bicycles in the right direction. "Are you looking for a place to stay?" They asked us... and of course we were. They then took us into their beautiful station which has air conditioning, showers, tv, dinner and ice cream for desert. What more could we ask for?

Day 30 July 8th
70 miles
Toronto, KS

Day 29 July 7th
72.0 miles
Walnut, KS

Day 28 July 6th
86.6 miles
Golden City, MO

Thanks to Marth Ward, Jon Roy, Justin Constantino, Leah Jubara, Conception Constantino, Fonting Yu, Christine Cunningham and Tom Reynolds for your much appreciated donations!

Hi Rose,
As I read your blog I can still see that little girl in a leotard taking dance class with Steph, man have you grown up!! I am so proud of what you are doing. Will keep reading and will work out how to connect once you hit Colorado!! I want you two to think about food that you are missing on the road.....maybe we can give you a bit of comfort food to recharge the body!
hugs,

Hi Maya,
I just added a donation from Karl Meyer. He lives across the road from Grandma and Grandpa Donelson. He is a cyclist , a baseball fan and talks with with your grandparents frequently.

Rose,
I hear you hit Colorado, welcome to the heat!! Should hit over 100 today on the front range. Make sure you two drink lots, and I mean lots of water. It helps with the altitude. We need to talk about where you are so we can hook up and meet. Will you be near Fort Collins, if not how about Breckenridge? Let me know your route and a rough time line. Enjoy the Rocky Mountains we hiked to Flat top yesterday and it was spectacular!! 360 degrees of mountains. Look forward to seeing you. Sue Harbour

Dear Rose & Maya--

Congratulations on the Century ride--I was amazed with the 70 mile a day rides, and then 90 mile a day rides. . . I can't believe how far you've gone already. Don't think I could handle even driving cross country, and here you've pedaled close to 2000 miles. AMAZING!

Enjoyed your latest photo additions too.

I made a donation to Greenpeace and your effort today in memory of Myrna S. Larson. She was the Grandma of my good friend Laurie Meier from NY. She lived to be 102 and passed away on 6-4-06. I met Laurie on a biking adventure in VT a few years ago.

Dicki(?)ie: Martha, tried to send you a message from work the other night but it didn't come through. Will try and help her next we're on together. I keep wondering how long it would take Martha & me to go 100 miles--we'd keep having to stop of ice cream way too often!

I check the Blog daily for updates and to check everyone's comments. Very nice reading about the kindness of strangers and the Trail Angels.

Hope you are somehow staying cool!

Emily G.
